The 2017 Perth Mint Norse Goddesses – Hel 2oz Silver High Relief Proof Coin is the third and final release in the Norse Goddesses series, portraying Hel, the goddess of the dead and queen of the underworld in Norse mythology.

According to Norse legend, Hel was one of the three children of Loki, alongside Fenrir the wolf and Jormungand the serpent. Fearing the destiny foretold for Loki’s children, Odin banished Hel to the netherworld, where she became responsible for the souls of those who died from sickness and old age, as well as those who did not fall in battle.

Struck by the renowned Perth Mint from 2oz of 99.99% pure silver, this coin is issued as legal tender under the authority of the Government of Tuvalu. The striking high-relief design is presented on a rimless flan and individually antiqued to create the appearance of an ancient artefact. Due to this specialised treatment, each coin has its own unique surface characteristics and appearance.

The reverse depicts Hel seated cross-legged beneath the first World Tree, with the serpent Nidhug wrapped around its base. The roots of the tree feature haunting faces representing the lost souls under Hel’s watch. The design is completed by the inscription “HEL” and The Perth Mint’s traditional “P” mintmark.

The obverse features the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, together with the 2017 year-date and $2 denomination.

Strictly limited to a mintage of just 2,000 coins worldwide, this highly collectible release is presented in a prestigious square wooden display case featuring engraved detailing. Each coin is accompanied by a numbered Certificate of Authenticity and housed in a themed outer shipper.
