The 2026 Perth Mint 40 Years of Top Gun 1oz Silver Coloured Proof Coin celebrates four decades of Top Gun, the iconic aviation film that first captivated audiences in 1986. Combining precious metal with vibrant colour and legendary movie imagery, this officially licensed release is a must-have collectible for fans of the classic film and its action-packed sequel, Top Gun: Maverick.

The original Top Gun follows Pete “Maverick” Mitchell, a talented and fearless fighter pilot who enters the elite United States Navy Fighter Weapons School. Facing fierce competition, personal challenges and high-stakes missions, Maverick learns the importance of teamwork, courage and trust. The film’s enduring popularity continued with Top Gun: Maverick in 2022, introducing a new generation to the legendary franchise.

Struck by the renowned Perth Mint from 1oz of 99.99% pure silver, the coin features a vibrant coloured reverse design commemorating the film’s 40th anniversary.

At the centre of the design is the iconic Top Gun logo, with a fighter jet soaring above and the words “40 YEARS” featured below. A dramatic blue and red cloudy sky creates a dynamic backdrop, capturing the excitement and intensity of high-speed military aviation. The design is completed by the famous inscription “I feel the need… the need for speed!” and The Perth Mint’s traditional ‘P’ mintmark.

The coin is presented in a clear acrylic display case, accompanied by an illustrated outer shipper featuring the official Top Gun logo. A numbered Certificate of Authenticity is also included.

With a strictly limited mintage of just 3,000 coins worldwide, this commemorative release offers fans and collectors a special way to celebrate 40 years of one of cinema’s most recognisable aviation films.

A fantastic addition to any collection of movie memorabilia, aviation-themed coins or Perth Mint releases, the 40 Years of Top Gun 2026 1oz Silver Coloured Coin captures the spirit of speed, courage and cinematic nostalgia in fine silver.
